Campout Information

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • PLEASE BRING YOUR PERMIT WITH YOU.  YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO CAMP WITHOUT IT. It will be handed out at the Pack Meeting on Monday. More information below, under schedule of events.
  • You need to arrive between 1:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturday 9/17 and leave by noon on Sunday. Activities for scouts will start at 5pm sharp so it would be best to arrive early to have your
     tent
    set up.
  • Gates are locked 1 hour after Sunset and open again one hour after Sunrise. There is a man at the gate that will allow you to leave if it is an emergency.
  • There is at least one picnic table per site, and all sites have electricity. You will need to bring your own extension cord to get from the source to your tent or campfire.
  • Canoeing/Fishing: There is a small lake in Blackwell that has fishing & canoeing (for a small fee). They provide life jackets and it is something fun to do with everyone. It is not a swimming lake.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

5 p.m. - games/activities (There is a big open area that we will have marked with a poster and balloons)

6-7 p.m - Dinner

7:15 to 7:45 - Hike

8 p.m - campfire  (The campfire will be held in the same area as the games/activities and will be run by the Boy Scouts.  They have campfire songs and skits planned).

We will be handing out the permits on Monday at the Pack Meeting. (If you are not in attendance at the Pack Meeting, your permit or note will be sent through school on Tuesday.) There is one permit per site so if you don't receive a permit, you will receive a note letting you know the site number and what family you are sharing with. Please bring your permit with you! We attempted to accommodate everyone's request, but some families have the site to themselves because that is the way things worked out. We also tried to keep everyone close, but we only wanted to use the sites that had grass and not gravel. This is the first year at Blackwell, so we are asking everyone to be patient and accommodating. The first year of doing something is always challenging, but we are hoping it is a great experience for the scouts and families. Remember this is for them!!!!

Thanks, Beth Quinn and Becky Cira

Each family or tent family (2 families sharing) should bring:

  • Sleeping bags
  • Air Mattress if desired
  • Layers of clothing
  • A charged cell phone
  • Bug spray
  • Cash for canoeing
  • A few large garbage bags for the tent and tarp in the morning.  They will be damp and you will want to dry them out at home in the sun.  Also, large ziplock bag for stakes.
  • Flashlight - F.Y.I. each of your child/children will want their own flashlight.
  • A chair for every person at your site
  • Extra batteries for your flashlights
  • Toothbrushes and toothpaste
  • Crocs or flip flops make it easy for those bathroom breaks during the night, but gym shoes and socks are best for the activities and hike- and to keep mosquitoes away.
  • Music and a way to play it
  • Perimeter bug spray

Food

You are responsible for your own dinner, either already prepared items (i.e. Subway) or something to put on the campfire (hot dogs are easiest ).  If you need paper plates or utensils you need to bring them. We will have some community fires started to cook dinner if you don't want to light your own.  We will provide some condiments at these community sites so everyone doesn't have to bring them.  You are in charge of any drinks you might need for your family.

We will provide smores for the camp out, some bottled water, and breakfast ( which includes donuts, fruit, juice, coffee, and hot chocolate).  We will also provide glow sticks for the kids.
